Prepositions in German Grammar

Introduction

Prepositions indicate what kind of relationship other words have to each other for example: place, time etc. They usually come before a noun in a sentence. Prepositions can be tricky to learn because they cannot always be directly translated. Some German prepositions also indicate which case should follow them.

In the following pages, you can learn about different types of prepositions and which case to use after certain prepositions. At the end of each page, there are exercises to help you practise what you have learnt.

Example

Wegen einer Autopanne musste der Mann am Dienstagabend ohne sein Auto von der Arbeit nach Hause gehen.
